Your questions answered

Here are answers to the most commonly asked questions about Child Travel POA.

A Child Travel POA is a legal document that authorizes a trusted adult such as a relative, guardian, or nanny, to travel with a minor child on behalf of the parents or legal guardians. It is typically used when the parent(s) are not accompanying the child on a domestic or international trip.

It is required when a child under 18 is traveling alone or with someone other than their parents. Airlines, immigration authorities, and embassies may request it especially for international travel to prevent disputes or unauthorized movement of minors.

Any legally competent adult, such as a close relative, appointed guardian, family friend, or nanny, can be authorized, provided the parents or legal guardians trust them to make decisions in the child’s best interest during the travel period.

A legally valid Child Travel POA must clearly mention:

  • Full name, nationality, and passport/Emirates ID details of the child

  • Names and details of both parents/legal guardians

  • Name, relationship, and details of the authorized person

  • Purpose and destination of travel

  • Duration of validity (exact travel dates)

  • Specific permissions (e.g., medical consent, border crossings)

  • Signatures of both parents

  • Official notarization

Yes. Notarization and attestation is mandatory for a Child Travel POA in the UAE

  • For use within the UAE: The POA must be notarized by a UAE Notary Public.

  • For use outside the UAE: It must also be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and, if required, the embassy or consulate of the destination country.

Yes. Expat parents residing in the UAE can issue a Child Travel POA for use abroad, but it must be:

  • Notarized in the UAE

  • Translated into the required language (if necessary)

  • Attested by MOFA and the destination country’s embassy for it to be legally recognized overseas

If all required documents are in order, the POA can typically be drafted, reviewed, and notarized within 1 to 2 working days. For international use, allow additional time for attestation and embassy processing.
